Gary Bolles

Gary began Barbershop in 1964 in Providence, RI where he was an active quartet singer, coach and chorus director before moving to California in 1978.

In the FWD, Gary sang in the GWTC as well as two other medalist quartets, The Main Street Revue and Brass Ring. He is a twelve-time International Quartet competitor, having reached the semi-finals in 1977 and 1988.

As a chorus director, Gary took the Bay Area Metro Pot O Gold Chorus from 1987 to 2002, leading them to three FWD Championships and five Internationals placing as high as 7th in 1992.

A successful clinician and coach, Gary has served on many Harmony University, Directors College and Top Gun faculties in the United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. He served for more than 10 years as Music Dean at the very successful Nor Cal Youth Harmony Camp. He also was the primary coach of the 2014 International Champion Quartet, The Musical Island Boys.

In 2010, Gary retired after 35 years as a Certified Judge in Interpretation and Music. He served as Interpretation Category Specialist from 1978 to 1981. He has judged 8 BHS and 3 HI Internationals as well as NZABS and Pan Pacific Competitions.

Outside the Society, Gary has sung in vocal ensembles since the age of eight. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University and is a former middle school vocal/general music teacher. A retired software engineer, Gary now makes his home in Henderson, NV.
