Mike Lawton

A native San Diegan and graduate of the University of San Diego, Mike caught the barbershop bug in 1981 when he was invited to an El Cajon Music Masters Chorus meeting. Mike began quartetting almost immediately and hasn’t stopped since--singing both lead and baritone. Several years later, Mike joined the San Diego Sun Harbor Chorus, where he earned bronze medal at the 1991 International Chorus Competition. He also sang baritone with the hilarious “Quackenbush Quartet”, a popular Far Western District comedy quartet and district finalist. In late 1988, Mike joined with Mike Spencer, Dave Garstang and Terry Monks and formed “ Western Union ” where they competed in four international contests with their highest placement being 13th at the 1990 International Quartet Competition. They also won the Far Western District Quartet Championship in 1994. Mike’s quartet achievements culminated by winning a gold medal as the baritone of Revival the 1998 International Quartet Champions.

Currently, Mike continues to use his leadership and musical talents by coaching quartets and choruses. Mike has held roles such as assistant director, section leader, show chairman and several chapter officer positions with various choruses.

Mike is currently President/CEO of the Coordinated Group of Companies, Inc., an employee benefits brokerage and administration firm. Mike and his wife Denise are the proud parents of a son, Evan and a daughter, Allyson and live in Poway, CA.
