Great Western Timbre Company

Great Western Timbre Co. has been continuously registered with the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.) since 1979 and was originally formed in Fresno, CA.

The quartet performed on numerous Barbershop and Sweet Adeline chapter shows throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. They competed at various levels in the Barbershop Society during that time, winning the Far Western District Championship in 1986.

They continued to improve and qualified to represent the Far Western District at International Competitions in 1987 and 1988. They placed 23rd in Hartford, CT (1987) and 15th in San Antonio, TX (1988).

Both the baritone and the tenor of the quartet moved to Florida and as a result there followed a period of relative inactivity for the quartet.

In 2006, the lead turned 55 and the quartet was able to meet the qualifications of a senior quartet in the Barbershop Harmony Society (all members 55+, and a combined age of greater than 240). Since 2006, the quartet has competed during the Sunshine District Fall Convention and won the right to represent the Sunshine district in the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Senior’s Division competition in Albuquerque, NM in January of 2007, San Antonio, TX in January of 2008, Pasadena, CA in January 2009 and Tampa, FL in January 2010. The quartet has acquired 3rd and 4th place medals in those competitions in a field of 26 quartets from all areas of the Society. The members of the quartet are: Tenor – Roger Smeds (Stuart, FL), Lead – Dwight Holmquist (Lodi, CA), Baritone – Jack Liddell (St. James City, FL & Park City, UT) and Bass – Ron Black (Rocklin, CA).
